ClassQuill vs TutorBird

ClassQuill vs TutorBird: TutorBird is a tidy, single-price admin tool for private tutors and small centres — $23/mo for one tutor plus $6/mo per extra, covering scheduling and invoicing well and nothing more. ClassQuill matches that and adds what TutorBird doesn't have: a curriculum-aligned learning platform your tutors teach in, auto-marked homework, and exam mode, plus the Xero sync and AU rails TutorBird leaves out.

Scheduling and the day-to-day

TutorBird handles the calendar a solo tutor or small centre needs, and it offers client self-booking — a genuine convenience ClassQuill doesn't match yet. ClassQuill is staff-scheduled: every tutor, room and class sits on one shared calendar, recurring sessions are set up once and repeat in sync, and rebooking takes a couple of clicks with everyone kept informed. The dividing line is scale of intent. TutorBird is priced and built around one tutor plus a few extras; ClassQuill assumes you're running a team and want the whole roster visible in one place.

How ClassQuill scheduling works

Billing, invoicing and getting paid

TutorBird invoices, but the money story stops fairly close to that. ClassQuill drafts an invoice the moment a session completes, attaches a Stripe payment link, syncs the whole thing to Xero so there's no double entry, and pays tutors through Stripe Connect direct payouts calculated from the sessions they actually ran. Then there's the Australian layer TutorBird leaves out entirely: PayID, GST handling and Basiq bank reconciliation. For an AU tutoring business, that's the difference between exporting spreadsheets to your accountant and having the books stay current on their own.

A learning platform, not just admin

TutorBird is admin software — scheduling and invoicing done tidily. What it doesn't contain is a place to teach. ClassQuill gives your tutors a curriculum-aligned, vetted question bank to assign from, homework that's auto-marked with instant feedback and free-form working reviewed by the tutor, and timed exam mode with mock SACs. No curriculum bank, no auto-marking and no exam mode exist inside TutorBird, so marking and materials still live outside it — in worksheets, in a separate drive, in the tutor's head.

The classroom itself: video and a live whiteboard

TutorBird has no native video or whiteboard, so online lessons run in whatever separate tool you already use. ClassQuill's built-in video and live whiteboard sit in the same session, with a maths-teacher stencil library included — nothing extra to connect.

Proof of learning parents can see

The reason this matters commercially: parents renew when they can see progress. ClassQuill turns real marked work into per-student topic mastery, flags students who are slipping before they cancel, and gives owners per-tutor quality analytics — one standard of marking across everyone you employ. Professional progress reports generate from that marked work with no extra effort from your tutors. TutorBird has no equivalent, because it never captures the learning in the first place.

The difference

They run the business. We also prove the learning.

TutorBird is great at the admin a solo tutor needs. But there's no learning platform inside it — no curriculum bank, no auto-marking, no exam mode — so it can't show parents the outcomes that keep them enrolled.

ClassQuill vs TutorBird — common questions

Is ClassQuill overkill if I'm a solo tutor?

If you only need a calendar and invoices for yourself, TutorBird's single-tutor pricing is hard to beat. ClassQuill earns its keep once you're running a team, want the books on Australian rails (Xero, PayID, GST), or want to prove student progress to parents — the things TutorBird doesn't do.

Does TutorBird have a learning platform?

No. TutorBird covers scheduling and invoicing; there's no curriculum-aligned question bank, no auto-marked homework and no exam mode inside it. ClassQuill adds all three, so your tutors teach and mark in the same place they run the business.

Can students book their own sessions in ClassQuill?

Not yet — ClassQuill is staff-scheduled, and client self-booking (which TutorBird offers) is on our roadmap rather than live. Your team owns and controls the calendar today.

Does ClassQuill sync with Xero?

Yes. Every invoice syncs to Xero and carries a Stripe payment link, and tutor payouts run through Stripe Connect — plus AU rails (PayID, GST, Basiq) that TutorBird doesn't offer.

Does ClassQuill have a whiteboard?

Yes — a live whiteboard is built into every session, with a maths-teacher stencil library included. TutorBird has no native whiteboard or video, so a lesson still runs in whatever separate tool you already use.
