Teachworks is deliberately general — it runs tutoring, music, driving and language businesses from the same core, leaning on 70+ integrations to stretch across all of them. That breadth is its strength and its limit: nothing in it is specifically shaped for how a tutoring company works, and it isn't AU-native. ClassQuill went the other way. It was built to run one Australian tutoring company and generalised out from there, so scheduling, billing and reporting assume a tutoring operating model rather than a generic services business.
Scheduling, video and getting paid
On the calendar, both cover the essentials; Teachworks offers client self-booking, which ClassQuill (staff-scheduled today) doesn't yet. Two places ClassQuill pulls ahead: it has its own built-in video — our own, not a separate Zoom subscription with copy-pasted links — and it settles on Australian rails Teachworks reaches for integrations to approximate. Invoices auto-draft on session completion, sync to Xero, carry a Stripe payment link, and tutors are paid via Stripe Connect, with PayID, GST and Basiq handled natively rather than through a third-party add-on.
A learning platform Teachworks doesn't include
Teachworks manages the business around the lesson but doesn't contain the lesson. ClassQuill does: a curriculum-aligned, vetted question bank your tutors assign from, homework auto-marked with free-form working reviewed by the tutor, and timed exam mode for mock SACs under real conditions. There's no equivalent inside Teachworks or its integration list — teaching materials and marking stay outside the platform, which is precisely the fragmentation ClassQuill removes.
Proof that students are learning
Because ClassQuill captures the marking, it can report on it: per-student topic mastery from real work, a clear view of which students are slipping before they cancel, and per-tutor quality analytics so owners hold one standard of marking across the whole team. Parent-ready reports generate from that data automatically. Teachworks reports on operations — sessions, invoices, attendance — but not on whether the student actually improved, because it never captures the learning to begin with.

I already have a Teachworks account — can I still access my old data after switching?
Yes. Your Teachworks login stays active for as long as you keep the account, so your historical data is there whenever you need to check it. Moving to ClassQuill doesn't touch Teachworks itself — we help you export your students, contacts and schedule and bring them across, and you can run both in parallel until you're ready to switch off the old one.
