Scheduling and running at scale
Wise.live is genuinely strong here — scheduling, billing and payroll for a large operation, plus client self-booking and native mobile apps on both platforms. This is the section where Wise is ahead of us, and we'll say so plainly: ClassQuill is staff-scheduled today (self-booking is roadmap, not live), and our mobile is Android now with iOS in progress. ClassQuill's answer on the desktop side is a single shared calendar for every tutor, room and class, recurring sessions set once, and fast rebooking that keeps everyone in the loop. Billing, invoicing and payroll
Both run billing and payroll at scale. ClassQuill drafts invoices on session completion, attaches Stripe payment links, syncs to Xero, and pays tutors via Stripe Connect from the sessions they actually ran. Where ClassQuill pulls ahead is the Australian rails Wise wasn't built around — PayID, GST handling and Basiq bank reconciliation. Wise is an international platform; ClassQuill was built to run an Australian tutoring company, so the local money plumbing is native rather than a workaround.
The learning layer Wise summarises but doesn't teach
Wise's headline feature is automated session summaries — it will tell you, in prose, that a session happened and what was covered. That's useful, and it's also exactly where its story ends. ClassQuill goes underneath the summary: a curriculum-aligned, vetted question bank your tutors teach from, homework auto-marked with free-form working reviewed by the tutor, and timed exam mode with mock SACs. Wise summarises the session; ClassQuill is the place the teaching and marking actually happen.
The classroom itself: video and a live whiteboard
Wise doesn't have its own video — it starts and joins Zoom in-platform — and for a whiteboard it lists Pencil Spaces as one of its own integrations. That's two extra tools riding along with the ops subscription. ClassQuill's video and live whiteboard are both native to the session, so there's nothing to connect.
Proof that students learned, not just attended
Wise's own positioning stops at "sessions happened, invoiced, recorded, summarised." It never claims to show whether students learned — there's no curriculum, no marking and no exam mode to draw evidence from. ClassQuill builds per-student topic mastery from real marked work, flags students slipping before they churn, and gives owners per-tutor quality analytics. Ruchir, who came at ClassQuill from a data-science background, built the outcome metrics so the numbers reflect actual marked performance rather than attendance. That's the gap /vs/wise exists to close.
